Lauren Smith

Smith’s work is inspired through her three years experience in historic preservation architecture. This alone interest me…. I have a deep passion for architecture; I admire its aesthetic beauty and power it redeems.  Lauren’s notion of creating a sense of confusion and anticipation highly intrigued me, ‘I try to create environments that creates a sense of doubt or a moment of confusion.’ I intend to do this in everyone of the narrative drawings I create, an essence of abnormality, a steer away from the norm. There seems to be a feeling of vulnerability within this piece, a feeling of vulnerability that i also incorporate within the work through the presence of ‘the bed.’

For me personally a bed is a symbol of personal space and privacy, calmness and ‘individual environment,’ Smith manages to tease away that tranquility of the resting place and regenerate a place where the normalities are confused and ‘different.’
